Accessibility

As a training provider founded by a disabled woman, accessibility is something we are deeply committed to. We are committed to ensuring that Speak! training is accessible to everyone, and that every delegate receives the same high quality experience, regardless of their access needs.

Speak! to us about access

Delegates are encouraged to contact us before booking to discuss their needs. We may not always be able to meet every need, but will work with delegates as individuals, in a sensitive and supportive way, to meet as many needs as we can.

We are flexible and supportive, and can make adaptations on the day if a delegate has chosen not to disclose their needs in advance of the session. However we do encourage contacting us in advance, as this will allow us to better meet their needs.

You can contact us via email, phone, or WhatsApp using the details listed here.

General Information

  1. Regular breaks are provided, and will be at least 10 minutes long, with at least 30 minutes for lunch
  2. We use powerpoint slides. Slides are used as a prompt rather than for detailed information, and all the information on a slide will be spoken by the facilitator.
  3. All video and audio content in sessions will have closed captions and / or a transcript provided in advance.
  4. Case Studies and any other written information for group work will be provided in advance.
  5. Written information is provided as a Word document. Other formats can be supplied on request.
  6. We encourage all delegates to do whatever they need to do in order to be comfortable and focus on the session. This might include moving around, doodling or using fidget toys, snacks, or even bringing a cozy blanket. So long as it is not disrupting others, it’s welcome!

Trauma Informed Practice

Speak! covers topics that can be distressing. We take a trauma informed approach to all our training, acknowledging that delegates may be directly impacted by many of the topics we discuss. Topics are discussed sensitively and in a safe, supportive environment, and delegates’ emotional and psychological safety are prioritised.

Language and Interpretation

Sophie speaks English and French, and is trained in working with interpreters.

Training will be provided in English. Other language options are not currently available.

Delegates who require an interpreter are welcome, both for online and face to face training. Cost for interpreters must be covered by the client, and Speak! is not able to assist in finding an interpreter.

Live online training

Our preferred platforms for live online training are Teams and Zoom.

Clients are encouraged to ensure that delegates have access to a quiet space, whether in the office or at home, while they take part in training.

Face to Face Training

We always aim to use buildings and training spaces that are accessible, however as we typically train within clients own spaces this may be outside our control. Where possible we will provide detailed information about a venue to enable delegates to make an informed choice.

Auto-generated closed captions will be visible on the screen or projector where available.

We work with organisations to ensure that training spaces are as accessible as possible, and that the needs of all delegates can be met.

Technology

For online training, clients should ensure that all delegates have access to an internet connection, and a laptop or PC, along with any other technology that is needed to access the session, such as headphones.

Sessions can be accessed on a smartphone or tablet, however this will limit opportunities for the delegate to participate fully, and will be especially limiting for delegates who rely on closed captions, screen readers, or other assistive technologies.

We may use external apps to assist engagement and discussion, however not all apps are accessible. Instructions for use of any external apps will be included in joining instructions, and delegates are encouraged to contact us if a particular app will be difficult for them to use – we can and will provide an alternative.
